An Encouraging Word
Being Steadfast in our Walk
How do we stay steadfast in our walk with the Lord? One vital thing we must do is study the Word of God. John 8:31-32 (NASB) tells how Jesus was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, “If you continue in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; “and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.” The Word of God is the truth. We must know what the Word says in order to be set free.
Studying God’s Word will change our way of thinking and conform it to the will of God. The Word is the will of God. It is the roadmap for our life. One of the hardest times of my life was in 2005 when I was facing divorce because of abuse. I was in the Word morning and night seeking out God’s will for me and making sure I was in line with His will for my life. In times of big decisions, we must seek Him and His will, not our own. The only way to know His will is to be in the Word. Psalm 119:105 (NASB) says, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” Without the Word in our hearts we will not know His will for our life. We must be steadfast in the Word.
If we want to be a true disciple of Jesus we must know the Word. Knowing the Word will keep us on the straight and narrow path. Its knowledge will keep us from being deceived by wrong teachings and making wrong decisions. 2 Peter 3:17 (NASB) says, “ You therefore, beloved, knowing this beforehand, be on your guard so that you are not carried away by the error of unprincipled men and fall from your own steadfastness. We must be steadfast in the Word so that we can continue to walk in the freedom that Christ has provided for us.
